The Events and Performances that have shaped Ultrarunning Ultrarunning has been shaped by a whole series of events and performance...
I've written about Eleanor Adams' participation in the earlier editions of the race. She competed five times from 1984 to 1989 setting world bests each time and was the only athlete to win the race five consecutive times. (The race was not held in 1985). http://runyoung50.co.uk/colac-6-day-race-1984/

Below are the e-mail exchanges between me and Alexis Oosterhoff - regarding the performance of Perdon George 6 days Colac 1989. It seems impossible to me that it has been modified on the track and no one has thought about re-measuring it. Please do you have someone who has the steps per lap = split of that race?
A dear greeting

Good morning Mr. Alexis Oosterhoff-
We heard by e-mail in March of 2021 about the George Perdon case, I have not heard any more and even looking at the Australian 6 day rankings, the name of George Perdon has not yet been entered. I have a big doubt that in that race there was something about Perdon that he does not tell. His result is on his records on all the races held in Colac there are Passaggi every 24 h why is his record nowhere? At least on Australian primates should there be? I await your answers.
Kind regards
Franco Bini
Hello Franco,
I have been discussing this with our Australian records officer in the last week. Here is an extract of her response:
".. it appears that in 1989 George Perdon was not the only one who didn't have his record recognised. Maurice Taylor (M40) ran 894km but Mick Thwaites currently holds the M40 record with 837.605km. So it would appear that there was an issue with the course. On looking back on the history of the race it appears that in 1989 the track was altered when the bowling club was removed from the square and the area in front of the memorial was changed. It could have altered the course measurements and possibly a new course certificate was therefore required and may not have been obtained, therefore making the results not eligible for records. "
"... getting the relevant paperwork in place to support this application would be tough as well. We would need the measurement certificates of the course, the lap splits and signed timekeeping sheets if they were manually recorded. The signed off results by the Race Director and timekeeper. We would also need George's passport/birth certificate details and the application would need to be signed and submitted by AURA. I am also not sure if the IAU would be prepared to consider an application for a WAPB dated back to 1989."
We are still making active investigations, and will attempt to contact some participants of the race for further information. I think it will be extremely difficult to locate paperwork, should it exist, to validate such records.
My own investigation shows that the Australian record books recognised some records from this 1989 race for several years, and then those records were removed. I suspect it was brought to the attention of a then-records officer that there was an issue, and any related records were removed.
I'll let you know if we can make any further progress on this matter.
Regards,
Alexis Oosterhoff.
